Improving the skills, talents, and qualifications of residents is key to ensuring that a capable and available workforce is available, to act as a draw for potential employers and therefore increase job opportunities. A focus on technology is key in the modern economic climate.

Conduct a gap analysis of the needs of employers and the skills of residents (emphasis on technology), as part of a focused economic development strategy.

Short Term: 1-3 Years

Work with technical/vocational schools within East PoS to develop, promote, and increase participation in a wide variety of programmes based on needs identified in gap anaylsis (see Strategy Sixteen also).

Medium Term: 4-6 Years / Long Term: 7+ Years Joint responsibility with another agency

Develop and execute programmes to expand skills training and job readiness and address the gaps identified in the study and requests from communities

Short Term: 1-3 Years / Long Term: 7+ Years

Develop and execute programmes to improve primary, secondary, and tertiary attendance and graduation rates, e.g. homework support services (see Investment Prospectus Initiative 8), mentorship programmes, university/college/vocational fairs, remedial classes in literacy and other fundamental subject matters

Short Term: 1-3 Years / Long Term: 7+ Years

Work with the major educational institutions, such as UWI, COSTATT and UTT, to consider establishing a presence in East PoS.

Medium Term: 4-6 Years / Long Term: 7+ Years Joint responsibility with another agency
  • These should ideally be located in one or more of the IPAs, and could focus on programmes in culture/arts, sports education, urban planning, technology, or other appropriate subjects.
